What is Apple Cider Vinegar?

Apple Cider Vinegar has a long and varied history of traditional use. In Ancient Egypt, Cleopatra was said to have used apple cider vinegar in her beauty routine, and the “father of medicine”, Hippocrates, used it as a cleaning agent in Ancient Greece. Nowadays, apple cider vinegar is still used around the world and praised for its versatility. But what exactly is it? Apple Cider Vinegar is a type of vinegar made from fermenting the juice of apples. Yeast and bacteria break down the natural sugars within the juice, turning them into alcohol. The Mother – a collection of bacteria – is formed during this process when then converts the alcohol into acetic acid, the active ingredient in vinegar. The Mother is what gives vinegar its cloudy appearance.
