The capsules work only in your digestive system to stop around a quarter of the fat in your diet from being absorbed. This fat passes out of your body and may cause changes to your bowel movements. alli is not a quick fix and only works in combination with a reduced calorie low fat diet. People should be advised to start a diet and increase their levels of activity before taking alli.
- The recommended dose is one alli capsule to be taken three times daily with a meal. This usually means one capsule at breakfast, lunch and dinner. If the meal contains no fat, do not take a capsule. No more than three 60mg capsules should be taken in 24 hours
- If a dose is missed and it is less than an hour since the last meal time then the dose can be taken. However if more than an hour has elapsed since the last main meal, that capsule should be missed
- You should take a multivitamin (containing vitamins A, D, E and K) once a day, at bedtime whilst taking alli
- Duration of treatment with alli should not exceed 6 months
alli is not suitable for:
- Under 18s
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women
Other medicines and alli
- alli may affect some medicines you have to take.
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Take a multivitamin every day if you are taking alli
alli can lower the levels of some vitamins absorbed by your body. The multivitamin should contain vitamins A, D, E and K. You should take the multivitamin at bedtime, when you will not be taking alli, to help ensure that the vitamins are absorbed.

Each hard capsule contains 60mg of orlistat. The other ingredients are:
